The Origin Of The ΔΧ Chapter
Pi Kappa Phi began at Kansas State University with a leadership lab on November 21, 1976. The lab was conducted by Jerry Matthews, Pi Kappa Phi National Director of Development, and Mark Ashley, Field Secretary for the national fraternity.
Over the Thanksgiving and Christmas vacations that followed, many of these men lost interest in forming the new fraternity. As a result, the spring semester of 1977 saw only seven men who signed up return to begin work on the fraternity. The Original Seven Members of the Delta Chi Chapter are Steven Leroy Dreiling, Ronn Kent Smith, Mark, Raymond Hutchinson, David William Curtis, Scott Maxwell McCulley, Matthew Steven McGill, and Robert Kent Hiss.
To fulfill IFC requirements, a house had to be obtained. The men considered several locations deciding on the house at 421 N. 16th Street. By the fall of 1977, the group had grown to 28 members, and these men immediately went to work. They continued to participate with other Greek houses in intramurals and other events. The colony continued to grow and the priorities turned to meeting the requirements needed for chartering.
On April 15, 1978, all the hard work paid off when thirty-nine men were initiated into Pi Kappa Phi and chapter designation of Delta Chi chapter was given to the Kansas State colony.

The National Organization
On a quiet December evening in 1904 in Charleston, S.C., three friends—Andrew Kroeg, Simon Fogarty and Harry Mixson—made a choice to lead. Those three men chose to start their own fraternity. The three grew to seven; seven grew to eight; eight grew to 11. From the College of Charleston, they spread to nearby Presbyterian in 1907—and then to California in 1909. In just over four years, Pi Kappa Phi had become a truly national fraternity. Over the course of a century, a fraternity with humble beginnings has grown into a brotherhood of more than 120,000 strong.
